Basics of Vital Signs Monitoring

Course fee is R 800 per person

This is a half-day workshop specifically designed to benefit non-medical staffhome-based carers and nursing auxiliaries required to do vital signs observation or monitoring in the interest of patient safety.

Participants will have the opportunity to practise measuring physiological parameters and observing clinical parameters for signs of clinical deterioration to improve patient outcomes. The course is presented by The Division of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Cape Town.

Course content:

•    Patient safety
•    Theory and practise of monitoring and interpreting:
o    heart rate
o    blood pressure
o    respiratory rate
o    oxygen saturation
o    temperature
o    level of consciousness
o    fluid balance
o    clinical parameters
