Are you considering doing a PhD?

This is a 12 week fully online course facilitated by the Child Nurse Practice Development Initiative (CNPDI) in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Cape Town.

This PhD preparedness course focuses on:

• Academic reading and writing skills
• PhD support
• Computer and technical skills for PhD
• Structure of a thesis

The aim of the course is to help students bridge the gap between a Masters' degree and a PhD,especially if the Masters' degree was a clinical or professional degree with less focus on independent research and academic writing skills. The outcome of this course is that students will have a very clear idea of what the PhD journey looks like as well as have the basic skills to tackle a PhD.

There are 4 modules in this course, each lasting between 1 to 4 weeks, as well as a 1 week introduction and conclusion. Each module is populated with tutorials, summaries and outlines that provide a list of resources to be utilised for the assessments to be completed.

Students should allocate at least 6 hours a week to get through the course material and assessments.

Certificate of Completion will be issued to participants on successful completion of the course.

Only participants registered for the course will be eligible to participate.
